The winner of the Monologue Competition 2020 is 'Nora's Flood' by Theresa Sowerby. Hundreds of entries were received from around the world. Congratulations to Theresa Sowerby. Here is the shortlist:-

Well done to those shortlisted and commiserations to those who didn't make it this time. Here is a paragraph about Theresa:- 

Theresa writes plays, poetry and short stories. She has won or been placed in a number of competitions and her work has been published in several magazines and anthologies Her one act plays and monologues have made the finals of several competitions and won audience votes for best work. She has directed her own adaptation of Moliere’s The Hypochondriac and a modern, experimental version of Durrenmatt’s The Visit of the Old Woman. She lives in Todmorden in the Calder valley with husband, Neil, and Chihuahua, Captain Smidge.
She won this year's Cannon Poets' Sonnet or Not competition with a tribute to Seamus Heaney.


Christine's theatre work has been seen in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Denmark, Mexico, Korea and the US, along with dozens of scripts for CBS, CTV, History and the Family Channel. In San Miguel  de Allende, Mexico, she was the first artistic director of the Diez Minutos Festival and in 2018 won the Marion Thauer Brown New Drama Award while writing and producing pub theatre in the UK. Her full length black comedy Four Thieves Vinegar had a successful run in London before being remounted at the Brighton Fringe 2019. She has published several short stories and her novella Lemon Golf (Must Try Harder) was a finalist in the 2019 Heritage Future Great Story Contest in California.
The winning story of the Short Story Competition 2020 is 'Cousins' by Christine Foster. Congratulations to all and commiserations to those who didn't make it this time - competition was intense; there were hundreds of entries and from many countries. Here is the shortlist:-

The winner of the 2019 Monologue Competition is 'It's My Wonderful Life' by Cynthia Arsenault. Many congratulations to her and commiserations to the other entrants. Her monologue has now been added to the Monologue Page and is featured on the Home Page. A paragraph about her and a picture are reproduced here:-

Cynthia Faith Arsenault, psychologist by day, writer by night, is a former director, whose play
workshop group, aptly named Group, encouraged her to take up the pen. Six years later, she is
published in Best 5 Minute Plays for Teens, Best 10 Minute Plays of 2017, A Solitary Voice,
Best Women’s Monologues of 2019 and on Monologuebank,com. There have been over 100
productions of her short plays at such New England venues as the Firehouse Center; Boston
Playwrights Theatre; Cohasset Drama; Hovey; Our Voices; Acme; Image; Company Theatre; 
Acton 3, Fresh Ink, the Boston Marathon and The Actors Studio of Newburyport—as well as in
most other states, and Canada, London and Australia.
